My heart is heavy today. Last night, my sister delivered her twins, just shy of 27 weeks. While many of you know that their daughter, Lauren, had a terminal disease - Trisomy 18 - the prayer has been that Paula and Jeff would be able to spend some time with Lauren before she passed. Graciously, God blessed them with a little over an hour to love on, hug and be with Lauren.
Jacob was born at 2 pounds, 1 ounce and he is already proven to be a fighter. According to my brother-in-law, the nurses are already surprised with his strength and tenacity. Jacob will continue to be in the NICU for several months and we pray for his continued growth. He is healthy and his vital signs are perfect, but there is a long road ahead.
My favorite story that Paula shared with me through this all is that the only time Jacob settled down and stopped making noise was when they laid Lauren next to him. He became completely calm and was content to be with his sister. Still makes me cry just to type it out.
Our family holds to the promises that God has given us ...
"And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose." Romans 8:28. A verse that not only Jeff shared with us today, but one that we covered in my Bible Study this morning.
While we are sad and mourn, we rejoice that Lauren is with our creator. She is perfect in His eyes and like Jesus said in Matthew 9:22, "Take heart, daughter, your faith has made you well."
And as Paula and Jeff consistently amaze me with their faith and testimony, they remind us that their list of blessings is longer than their list of concerns and requests.
Please say a prayer for Paula, Jeff and certainly little Jacob as he continues to grow. Pray for JP, their little 2 year old. Pray for strength, energy and the peace that passes all understanding.
