Maggie and I made it home today after a successful trip to the Iowa State Fair. This picture I took at the fair truly sums up any experience to a state fair:
Monday was a full day for us as we headed out from my parents before 7am and got home at 10:30 that night. (Des Moines is a four and a half hour drive from their place.) But it was all worth it! The Iowa State Fair has now taken the top place as our favorite fair (we've attended seven between the two of us).
Our favorite food item was the pork chop on the stick. I had two during our visit there!
Seriously check out the size of this black angus bull (3,400 pounds!) ...
Here is Iowa's collection of butter sculptures (cow, astronaut and television - complete with a bowl fo popcorn!):
The accordian talent contest was a huge hit as well. Here is the crowd (note: median age is probably 70):
Here is the "unofficial" judge taking her own notes:

by chance did they have any t-shirts that said grease only? and did they sell applesauce dip to go with the chops?
that first comment was from Josh...just to clarify. :) looks like you had a great time! how fun! maggie is such a trooper. starting her young on the fairs, too...i like it!
